Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Quality merino garment

After trying just about every synthetic insulating layer and various wool garments, my preferred material is merino wool. Minus 33 provides a quality product with great customer service. I am an outdoor photographer living in Alaska. Clothing is an essential piece of kit if you are going to be outdoors for an extended period of time. I have numerous insulating layers from Minus 33. The expedition weight Katmai bottoms are my most recent purchase from Minus 33. These bottoms are comfortable, and very warm. Thank you Minus 33 for another well made garment!

Best Thick Layer Option I Found

On cold days I can use a single Minus33 Expedition instead of doubling up on thinner Smartwool or Icebreaker layers.

Dave,

Thanks for the feedback! We're glad to hear that your Minus33 100% Merino Wool Katmai Men's Bottoms are providing a great thick layer option for those cold days!

Favorite Winter Base

I bought these to have a heavier base layer for outdoor activities in the deep winter months of December, January, February and I have been pleased with their performance. They have been great on my pre dawn runs, even when the temps get down to the single digits. I just wore them for a 5 mile and 2,000 ft of gain snowshoeing adventure and they were perfect - comfortable, warm, wicked the sweat, and kept my legs in hiking mode. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a skiing or snowshoeing base layer.

Peter,

Thanks for the review! We're happy to hear that you're enjoying the 100% Merino Wool Katmai Men's Bottoms. We hope you have a great rest of your winter!

Stay Warm,

-Minus33
