Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Good all around weight

Use this as a base layer in 60 degree weather under a wool shirt as well as frigid mornings where it’s down into the teens using additional layers. It is the perfect all around weight to handle a wide range of applications. Like others I wish it were not made in China although I was aware of that prior to purchasing so I cannot give a lesser review because of it. I understand it would be hard to manufacture these here but how about anywhere but China.

Brad,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback on the Men's Isolation 1/4 Zip, we greatly appreciate it. Our 235 gsm midweight fabric with the 1/4 zip in this piece, allows this garment to be highly versatile and able to be worn in a wide range of temperatures and activities.

Reshoring our manufacturing is important to us and we can assure you that we are working on it! We have started this process with the purchase of 6 sock machines which we learned to operate here in Ashland New Hampshire on the grounds of our historical mill. You can see our USA Made Mountain Heritage collection on our website!

Additionally, I'd like to provide you with some brief history of our company that may provide some insight into why we source some of our products abroad. The parent company of Minus33 is L.W. Packard, a textile company created by our current president's great-great-grand-uncle in 1916. We were able to successfully run this textile mill for 86 years until, in 2002, the politics of globalization caused our president's father to finally go out of business as one of the last textile mills in America. He had to let go 300 employees, most of them friends and family that he grew up with. After that, he started a 100% merino wool base layer company which is now the Minus33 you know today.

Thank you for supporting Minus33.

Norway worthy

Hello we bought these in the male and female version for a trip to Northern Norway. We did have spectacular weather but the temps were 40 and wind blowing on the North Cape. We were never cold with this and a wind breaker. Love they are easy to wash!

Leie,

Thank you for your feedback! It's great to hear that your midweight 1/4 zips performed well and kept you both warm on your trip to Northern Norway!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a great review.

Overall minus 33 review

Minus 33 products are the very best in the market.

My minus 33 addiction started with socks that didn t make my feet sweat and then cold. I have tried every , and i mean every, sock, sock liner, powder, even tried antiperspirant on my feet. Merino wool was my answer.

Then I tried a 1/4 zip top and my polypropylene stuff got shoved to the back of the closet.

I tried medium weight bottoms and I was just so comfortable and perfectly warm.

Of course there is a trial period to zero in on your sizing, but minus 33 customer service is second to none.

For those of you who live in n.h., they also have, business hours, back door pick up service. Several times I ve driven to the mountains, and just exited the highway for about 8 mins, picked up my order, and i was back on my way.

Now I have progressed to mid and expedition pieces which really helps to fine tune for the forecast.

If I lost any of my pieces I would purchase them all over again without hesitation. I never have to consider any other manufacturer, there is no better comfort or warmth.

Can t say enough about minus 33, you won t go wrong, and they didn t give me free merchandise to make me say all this. Simply the best.

Thanks minus 33

Keith,

Thank you for the great review! We are happy to hear you are a fan of our Minus33 products!
