Meet Alex & Laura

About Alex

My name is Alex Fazekas-Boone. I live in a small city just south of Seattle, Washington called Tacoma with my beautiful woman Laura. Together we travel, photograph and share about all of the rad things we have the pleasure of experiencing in life. I am a Pacific Northwest native, and was born and raised here in Washington State. I come from a huge family, my mother was one of eight kids. I have three brothers, one sister, two nephews, three nieces and too many cousins to count. My family has always encouraged me to follow whatever I was passionate about from art to skateboarding to music and photography.

I have always made art in some fashion my whole life, but my main focus these days is photography. It’s something that just happened organically. I didn’t really set out to do it. I wasn’t like “Hey, I’m going to be a photographer now guys.” It just came together on its own and I think that’s what’s so special about it.

My other big passion is travel. It’s all I think about really. To me it is like a drug. There’s a reason it’s called a trip you know! It hooked me the first time I went on that road trip and saw the enormous basin of Crater Lake and the bison causing traffic jams in Yellowstone National Park. The thing I really like about travelling is that it takes me out of my comfort zone and forces me into new and strange experiences. I meet weird and interesting people I wouldn’t otherwise, and encounter scenes I couldn’t see back home in Pacific Northwest. Traveling ensures that my camera and I are constantly standing in front of fresh and inspiring people, places and things.

About Laura

I am a world traveling Yoga Instructor from the NW corner of the USA. I was raised in Tacoma, Washington by a loving family full of hardworking teachers (Mom + Dad + 2 Sisters). While I tried my best to be a rebel and avoid the teaching path, becoming a yogi revealed to me that I genuinely love helping people discover yoga and grow in their practice. Teaching is truly in my blood! Yoga has given me an entirely new life. It has changed and shaped me for the better. From my food choices to my finances to my friendships, yoga has taught me how show up in the world the way I always wanted to. It has connected me with so many incredible people and places. I can’t wait to see where else it takes me!

Minnesota Bucks and Minus33

The chilly night air consumed me as I prepped for opening morning, for the first time in 15 years there would be snow on the ground for Opening day of Minnesota Deer season. It is always an exciting time of year. Our traditional family cabin was packed with 6 of us. The anticipations made it hard to sleep. Hanging my gear the night before, I made sure I had all the appropriate Minus33 gear on hand. Starting with my inner layer of Lightweight next to skin, such as the Saratoga bottom and Ticonderoga top. These are followed by the Explorer Midweight Crew and the Adirondack Midweight Vest. Finally, the Thermerino jacket before my outer shell. Combined with the Expedition Wool Balaclava which keep me comfortable during the long days sit. These products keep me in the stand longer and warmer, so I can pursue such a great tradition in the Northwoods.

Lark Mountain Merinoholics Adventures Martin The Ideal Adventure Partner

The Ideal Adventure Partner

It might sound silly to someone who spends most of their time on well-beaten paths, but for some of us, coming across the right adventure partner can be as difficult as finding the right life partner.

There are a lot of things to take into account in order to create the right chemistry and make sure that everybody comes home safe and sound.

A New Friendship on Lark Mountain

I met Tim through one of my wife’s long time friends. At the time, I had no idea that we would end up climbing mountains together. I was planning to catch a few silver salmons during the Fall run down in Seward, AK and as I knew he was an accomplished angler, invited him to join me for the day. We had a good time and we got along from the start. After talking outdoors for a while, I brought up the idea of him joining me up in the mountains and he seemed very enthusiastic about it.

Great Himalayan Trail – High Route

The Great Himalayan Trail… I heard that it hadn’t been done solo before (later to find I was the 5th), so I derailed my plans to go scuba diving for a Himalayan adventure.   The trail traverses the country of Nepal and I was awestruck by the extreme ruggedness, and the unbelievably intense and beautiful scenery.   Equally as amazing, were the unbelievably kind and hospitable locals, surviving in the harsh landscape, yet always happy and welcoming.  During my traverse I traveled through lowland jungles, across high alpine glaciers, stayed in a couple of local’s homes, had a near death experience, and a nighttime run in with a snow leopard.  Everything you could ask for to make a wonderful adventure.

Colorado to Alaska 2016

As my first real backpacking experience the 4700 mile journey from Steamboat Springs, CO to Prudhoe Bay, AK was a trial by fire.  Starting in the middle of May on 8 feet of snow, I began the trip that would have me finish in snow on October 1st at Alaska’s Arctic coastline.  From the high ridgelines and rugged peaks of the U.S. and Canadian Rockies, to the strong currents and unpredictable weather on the mighty Yukon River, and North through the Brooks Range of Alaska.  The trip was a fabulous expression of not only the grand beauty of the wilderness, but what we can all be capable of.
