      Why Merino Wool?

      Core Spun Technology

Core Spun yarn provides extra durability while still offering merino's properties next to the skin. The nylon inner core is wrapped with Merino Wool and a touch of spandex for stretch.

      Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

      Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

      Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

      UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

      Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

      Shade beanie

The Shade beanie is much heavier than expected, it is a double layer construction and not much thinner than the cuffed midweight beanie. Its also very long and actually the same length as the cuffed midweight beanie with the cuff rolled down. As with all Minus33 products it is incredibly comfortable and the softest wool you will touch, all day comfort without itch or irritation and it simply feels good on the skin. I would still recommend it but I feel a single layer option in the microweight class would be more fitting, then moving the shade beanie firmly into the lightweight class.

      Favorite hat - I bought 3

As a bald guy who spends lots of time outdoors (walking, hiking, mountain biking, etc.) I wear a merino wool beanie a lot. I went through several other brands but none fit just right (too short and didn't cover earlobes, or too tight, or too bulky). I loved the Minus 33 beanie so much that I ordered 2 more and rotate through the 3 of them. It's warm enough to keep my head and ears warm on very cold days but breathable enough that's it's still comfortable in even mildly cool weather. The wool feels really soft and the fit is perfect - it's big/long enough to cover the bottoms of my ears but without being too tight. It has just enough stretch to fit your head shape. And when it's really cold at night I can wear it all night without it feeling too tight and constricting. And being reversible it's two hats in one. I actually look forward to cold weather so I can wear this hat. I can't say enough good things about this beanie.

Wow Chris! Thanks for sharing your experiences so far!

      I Originally Bought…

I Originally Bought This As An Ultra Light Beanie To Take On A Long Distance Hiking Trip. It Has Held Up Wonderfully, Does It's Job Of Keeping My Head Warm, And It Looks Great. Now I Use It Mainly As A Skiing Beanie, The Flush, Tight Fit Is Perfect Under A Helmet.

Design changes knock this from a solid 5 to 3 stars

I wrote a raving review on 12/30/20 because I LOVED the previous version of this beanie which was the best merino beanie I found (way better than other well-known merino brands). I just bought another (March 2023) to stock up because you should always buy more of your favorite items before they change it......... New version still has excellent, very comfy wool and all the performance attributes of merino. But the redesign has 3 problems: 1. the new lighter grey color is not as good as the old darker grey, but this is individual preference and not a huge deal. 2. biggest issue - the old version fit me perfectly, and I have a larger than average head, but the new one is best suited for people with incredibly elongated, tall skulls who like about 2.75 inches (I measured) of extra beanie poofing up and flopping around above their head, even when the back is pulled down low. Who was the model for this design? 3. The white tag/label sewn into the seam on the black side is hard to cut out without damaging the wool so you're left with the stub of a white tag on the black wool. I don't see a tag stub on my 3 old ones. So I should have ordered more before the redesign. Still a great beanie, just very weird size proportions and not sure I'd wear this new one if people will see me. (My wife laughs when she sees how tall it is.) Maybe it's good if you want a beanie-style, merino wool tall chef's hat???

      Chris,

We apologize for your disappointment in the new design of the Woolverino Reversible Shade Beanie. I can understand how it might not be as comfortable or as well-fitting as the previous version, as it has been redesigned to be more durable and versatile overall. Please contact customer service at 603-968-3351 so we may assist you further.

      Best,

      -Minus33
