Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

What a surprise

The thickness was amazing yet it fit without binding under my outer layers. Fit was just what I wanted not baggy or too tight. Cuffs were snug but not constrictive.
They will get the first cold weather workout from the end of November through December.I am confident they will pass the test.

Mike!

Expedition 1/4 zip

I used as a base layer in Northern Montana when the temps dropped to near zero and a foot of snow on the ground. Stayed warm and comfortable with another mod weight minus 33 wool layer and outer layers. I am very glad I purchased before going on this trip. Can't recommend enough.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a great review of our Expedition 1/4 zip merino wool shirt! We are happy to hear that our gear was there when you needed it to stay warm and comfortable.
Stay warm out there!

I thought it would be warmer

But I still like it very much and plan on wearing it in layers to keep warm in the house

Stephen,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We love that you have found a use despite it not being as warm as you expected.

This 400gsm expedition is exactly what you are hoping it would be.

I've been switching over to wool and have tried ibex, smartwool, point6, and icebreaker gear in the 150-300 range. This 400gsm series is awesome. I ordered a medium and it would comfortably fit over a baselayer or could be worn as a baselayer just more of a loose fit (5'9" 150lb athletic). When you look at the material you'll understand why it's possible to dry it in a drier as it has a substantial heft and build quality to the knit. I'll probably still stick with air dry but I wouldn't worry if it got mixed in by accident. It's extremely soft yet robust for wool. The navy color looks far better than the picture as well and is a true navy in person. Of all the above brands the minus 33 definitely feels like it will hold up the longest by far and I look forward to getting additional wool products from them in the future. I wish they were available in store to try on which was the reason I delayed ordering so long as I prefer to test the products, but when forum posts from years back all the way to present still recommended minus 33 I figured it was worth a shot. Don't expect this to be thick like a fluffy hi pile fleece when it arrives, but do expect that it will be a nice soft and thick wool if you are more familiar with 250ish grade material.

Dan,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a great, detailed review! We greatly appreciate your feedback. It's so great to hear that you enjoy our 400gsm fabric so much. The garments that are made in this fabric are my personally favorites for when we get the coldest temperatures of the year. The Kobuk is one of my favorites as well because it is so versatile and can be worn as a base layer or over another base layer like you mentioned.

Thank you again for your feedback and for your support of Minus33.
