Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Excellent

I bought this several weeks ago and have been using it heavily since. The workmanship is flawless and the fit is perfect. The combination of this jacket and a light wool base layer (plus a shell top when windy) is perfect for 3-season hikes in the Chuckanuts where a very common temperature range is between high 20s and mid 40s. The reason for only 4 stars is the zipper pulls. Any garment with zippers intended for backcountry use in cold conditions should have zipper pulls of 1.5 inches. If the manufacturer won't put them on, they can at least use metal zipper pulls with large enough holes in the end so you can add extensions.

Great Midlayer

I think this full zip is awesome.
Only reason I wouldn't give 5 star is I'm 6'-4" and I can't get it in tall.
I hate feeling like a kid, who's outgrown his clothes!

I will pass your tall suggestions on to our design team. Thank you for your review.

Tight fit

Fits a size or two small. Bought another expedition weight top of the same size and loved it.

Michael,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We apologize for your disappointment with the fit of your Minus33 Wilderness Expedition Full Zip, however we are very pleased that your are happy with the second one that you purchased.

My winter coat, most of the time!

In fall I don one of my many MS isolation, 1/4 zip black minus 33 XL sweaters and continue that until spring . I've been doing this for at least 15 years, interspersed with many washes, of course! I wash in hot water and tumble dry. I have a few of the older ones where the sleeves are tatered, and I choose the worn out ones when I am doing rough work outside in the mancave. I am very reluctant to recycle them! These sweaters keep me warm enough if I am doing heavy work outside and are a great heat retaining sweater under a light weight hoodie when I'm plowing or shoveling snow or cutting firewood or watering the flock in winter. You can't go wrong with this great product.

Medium weight genius

I love this thing. I have the Icebreaker equivalent and the Minus33 trounces it in every way , for less money. It’s comfy, stylish and versatile. Sometimes I hesitate to work out in it because I’m like “yeah, but what am I gonna wear later…?”
I’m wearing it right now in a cafe sitting across from a very pretty woman, way out of my league but I’m like at least I look good. Gonna go cycling in it later.
I will say it’s not what I would consider a heavy weight like a thick fleece or sweater, more like a regular weight one.

Nicholas,

We are glad to hear how much you like your Minus33 Wilderness Expedition Full Zip. Sounds like you enjoy wearing it while being quite active. Thank you for the great review!
