Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

My Favourite Go-To

I wear this for long distance nordic skating, snowboarding down couloirs & other high alpine descents, under my drysuit on the river in winter, and numerous other activities that demand a great warmth to weight ratio. I have two of these, and they are hands down the best midweight garment I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I love the buttons instead of a zipper (please never change this). The thumb loops make entry into my drysuit or other outer layers incredibly simple. I would definitely recommend against wearing any bottoms under these, doing so renders the button relief portion useless. I would highly suggest wearing a micro or lightweight top in extreme cold, but honestly that's not necessary for most of what I do since I'm moving a lot. On a side note, everyone who sees it immediately inquires where to get it, I'm not sure how many have decided to put down the cash, I would say if you're contemplating this versus an individual top & bottom, get this!

I know it's hard to trust a review that doesn't have cons. I haven't had an experience yet that would warrant one, then again I've had my first one for about 2 months if I recall correctly. If I had to be really nit-picky, I'd say it's a downside that it's only in red, I'd love to see a version in black.

Great piece of kit

Great garment for cold weather pursuits. Fairly light and compressible for the weight of wool used. My only gripe would be the use of buttons instead of a zipper, but it is only a minor inconvenience in all fairness. The buttons hold well and I cannot feel any noticeable heat leak when using this appropriately as a baselayer. Overall great product for the price. Oh, and a black color option would be nice as well. Keep up the good work.

Instant classic!

First thing I put on in the morning! Perfect weight and a great fit. Fantastic part of the kit, thought it was a bit of a whim, but quickly became my go-to. Couldn’t be improved!

Incredible Base Layer

When working outdoors throughout the year sweat management during the winter months is sometimes problematic. My new Union Suit base layer negates the fluctuating temperatures and I have zero cold chills created from sweating. One of my best gear purchases ever. Well done Minus 33!
