why merino wool
Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.
Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.
Insulates When Wet
Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.
Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.
Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.
Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.
MACHINE WASH AND DRY
Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.
Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.
Minus 33 products are the very best in the market.
My minus 33 addiction started with socks that didn t make my feet sweat and then cold. I have tried every , and i mean every, sock, sock liner, powder, even tried antiperspirant on my feet. Merino wool was my answer.
Then I tried a 1/4 zip top and my polypropylene stuff got shoved to the back of the closet.
I tried medium weight bottoms and I was just so comfortable and perfectly warm.
Of course there is a trial period to zero in on your sizing, but minus 33 customer service is second to none.
For those of you who live in n.h., they also have, business hours, back door pick up service. Several times I ve driven to the mountains, and just exited the highway for about 8 mins, picked up my order, and i was back on my way.
Now I have progressed to mid and expedition pieces which really helps to fine tune for the forecast.
If I lost any of my pieces I would purchase them all over again without hesitation. I never have to consider any other manufacturer, there is no better comfort or warmth.
Can t say enough about minus 33, you won t go wrong, and they didn t give me free merchandise to make me say all this. Simply the best.
Thanks minus 33
Thank you for the great review! We are happy to hear you are a fan of our Minus33 products!
I bought the Isolation Men's 1/4 Zip Midweight Black LT to layer over my Woolverino Men's Micro Weight L T-Shirt. I just got back from doing some short hikes in the Joshua Tree NP and these two layers worked well for temps in the 60s. Adding a 200 weight fleece on top was fine into the 50s. If it's colder and/or if the wind kicks up, you may want a windbreak from a rain jacket or down puffy coat.
I'm 6'2", 175 lbs and the Large size fits well. I've got long arms (36"/37" dress shirt sleeves) so the TALL size was perfect for the Isolation 1/4 zip.
I wore the Woolverino T-Shirt on the Appalachian Trail in 2021 for 1100 miles and it is a great shirt for hot weather. Day after day, completely soaked with sweat and it just didn't stink like the other hikers wearing polyester.
It is great to hear that our 100% Merino Wool Isolation Men's 1/4 Zip - Midweight, worked well through your hiking trips in the Joshua Tree. Hiking in the Joshua Tree is great and a lot fun to take pictures of!
When temperatures drop, selection of outdoor clothing becomes essential to comfort and safety. I am extremely impressed with this garment! The size runs true and provides for a great fit. It is soft to the touch, comfortable against bare skin... just an awesome base layer option. Its warmth also makes it a great insulating layer. The combination of a long sleeve moisture wicking shirt, followed by my merino wool 1/4 zip and a soft shell jacket have kept me comfortable down into the mid 20's. The quality and construction of this garment is first class and its warmth to weight ratio can't be beat. As an avid mountaineer and a certified K9 Search and Rescue handler, this garment and my MINUS 33 Beanie have earned a permanent place in my pack!
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a fantastic, detailed review! We are happy to hear that you are impressed with the fit and performance of your Minus33 Men's Midweight Isolation 1/4 zip! This is a personal favorite garment of mine and I couldn't agree with you more that this piece is perfect as a base layer or an insulating layer. Thanks again for leaving us your feedback, it is greatly appreciated.
Shirt length stays tucked in at waist. Tall size is much much more comfortable than most thermal-layer shirts. Also great wearing under coveralls - the extra length provides lots of extra warming value and does not ride-up
