Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

LEARN ABOUT LAYERING

Why Merino Wool?

two people sitting next to a river wearing merino wool

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Please, Please, Please,…

Please, Please, Please, Please Don't Change This Product! It Is Perfect As Is. The Sizing Is Good, The Hood Is PERFECT – Big Enough To Cover Your Noggin Without Looking Like A Speed Skater, But Not Too Big To Be Ridiculous. I Wear Mine Every Almost Everyday And I Haven't Washed It Yet (Don't Tell My Wife!) When This Thing Finally Does Die, Although It Is Showing No Indicating Of Wearying Out, I Will Immediately Buy Another One. I Can't Recommend This Wool Hoodie Enough.

Stay warm while long line cod fishing in the bering sea!

Synthetics cannot compete. I've tried the warmest synthetics and they got wet and cold then stayed that way.

If you are being active this material dries out in less than an hour after getting hit by a wave and stays warm while wet even off the coast of Dutch Harbor. It was the only garment that kept me warm and dry while commercial cod fishing.

If I was walking into the wilderness in the middle of winter alone wool is the only under layer I would trust to keep me warm, dry, and alive.

However, they need to do something with the elbows because I have two of these sweaters in black and both sweaters have both elbows blown out..

Austin,

Thank you for the great review! We are pleased to hear that you are staying warm while Cod fishing wearing your Kodiak Full Zip Hoodie. We will let our Product Development Team know your suggestion about the elbows. Keep warm!

KODIAK FLEECE HOODIE = AWESOMENESS!

This Kodiak Fleece Hoodie is fantastic! My intention was to use it as a final base layer under my hunting jacket, while sitting immobile up to 12hrs a day in a tree stand in weather 20 degrees or below. My initial Minus 33 purchase was the Kobuck 1/4 zip. The warmth from that opened my eyes to quality Merino wool. I got rid of all my polypropylene, and fleeces and began to build my Minus33 collection. The midweight Ticonderoga is very light and wicked warm.I carry all my hunting clothes in so I don’t sweat, and just wear that walking into hunt, when I get there, perspiration quickly evaporates and I slowly layer up.Then 2 layers of Kobuck, and the Kodiak if needed, then my hunting coat. It may seem like a lot but I’ve never been so warm with so little bulk. Don’t believe me just try the reversible beanie and see the warmth Minus33 provides.Ice Fishing , Snowmobiling, Hiking Adirondack peaks, I’m a winter outdoors man, All this stuff is great, If your moving you won’t need a lot of it., and if you have any ? Melinda in customer service is awesome. I’m 5’10, 155lbs. All the items I have are sized small except the Kodiak which was snug, and preferred the medium.Lighter weight items also work well in warmer temps with incredible perspiration evaporation

Oger,

We are very pleased to hear that you are staying warm and comfortable while hunting. Thank you for the great review.

Happy, but...

This is a wonderful garment that looks like quality class BUT it is so nice I would HATE to soil it with rough use. My gray large fits loosely snug on my 5'9" frame with a size 36 pant and comes down to my hip socket and is extremely comfortable with zero binding with arm movement. It is barely stretchy adding to comfort but will not tolerate more than a thick shirt underneath and ordering larger would detract from a very clean non baggy appearance. In 80% MS humidity it maintains warmth with just a T shirt under to about 45 F while immobile and WITHOUT WIND for short periods. I'm sure a thermal base layer would help much more. I can slightly feel the cold of moderate breezes so under 50 F for anything lasting longer than limited excursions (without exertion) would not work for me but I'm 68 y/o and hate to be cold! I GUESS that a decent shell might extend that down to 30-40 F while inactive BUT a shell is a must with any wind!!! Indoors it is a dream come true. It feels like a light cotton hoodie without making me hot even zipped up. The hood is perfect with a hat but I need to pull mine back some without one and can feel immediate relief from the cold using it on short walks. I got this to go under my Filson Tin Cloth Packer coat which works great but its not quite as warm as I expected and it is like wearing a shell over mink. Ideally, I think it should be worn alone or with a dressier shell when needed. If I was on a budget I would get something cheaper but I like really nice stuff that lasts. (I don't feel the zipper on my neck at all unless tucking my chin down and then its still soft -- for those who like me can't abide ANY neck constriction. Also The thumb holes help some when pushing through the sleeves on a shell and you can ball your hand inside the extended sleeve for hand warmth). I don't know if I'll get something else for my Filson for rougher and colder use but I'm damn sure keeping this one. Hope that helps.
