Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Wilderness Details

Ponte de Roma is the name of a double knitting technique that consists of two layers of fabric knitted together. Ponte fabric is tightly knitted, making it very durable. It's stretchy, soft, doesn't wrinkle, and has a naturally flattering drape, which lets these mid-layers crossover perfectly from the outdoors to the office, and everything in between.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Great but buyer beware!

Great quality and quite warm as well. I can wear it over just my mid-weight base layer - minus33 of course - and be fine in the 40s F for short periods. Throw a wool shirt and a jac-shirt ontop of those and I can work outside at 30 degrees forever. The problem is sometimes I can't take it off. I just love having it on but all my other clothes are green with envy over it.

Now one request though... You have all these beautiful colors in the light and mid-weight line and the expedition line is black. Plain old boring black. This seems to be universal among performance clothing companies. But my dear friends at minus33, I beg you to part ways from tradition and embrace the full spectrum of color! Black is so dark and I only wear this because it is so awesome. But I'd be doubly pleased if I could get it in olive drab or an earthy blue or red. Consider this please!

And thank you

Love it

Great piece of gear. I wish it had a chest pocket.

Long torso

Awesome fabric, construction, and fit. My only complaint is that the torso length is about 1.5-2inches too long. The best hangs well below many of my other jackets. I’d love to see a version with a ribneck collar like you’d see on a bomber jacket. That’s be pretty sporty I think.

Great vest

This vest is every bit as good as what I would expect from Minus 33. It's well built, comfortable and very warm. It's a perfect fit for me. It's my go to vest (and I have a number of name brand vests to choose from in my closet!).

Bob,

We are happy to hear that you're pleased with the quality, fit and function of your Minus33 Wilderness Expedition Men's Wool Vest. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a great review!
