Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

superb vest

Having other minus33 products, i knew to expect the highest quality.
1. the weight, although not hefty, was what i expected and is entirely suitable for layering over it.
2. the fit (i'm xs) was perfect in all measures, including an ample length
3. the reality of having 4 pockets (2 inner) is excellent. i can carry all essentials in the vest replacing the need for a purse/bag

Sara,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a wonderful review. We are so glad that the Wilderness Expedition Women's Wool Vest - Expedition is doing the trick for you!

Awesome

I own a lot of vests and this is my favorite. The fit is a cut above all my other vests (I'm 5'5" and pretty average weight with an hourglass shape and it is just very flattering--not boxy but shaped well and just right in sizing). The wool is thick and soft (Minus 33 wool is so much softer than Smartwool or Icebreaker). And it washes well. My only complaint is that I wish they offered a light grey and an ivory (and maybe some fun colors -- tropical pink, lavender, dusky purple, teal, or peach if the dye is eco friendly). I have the black, and while that's something I get a lot of use out of, it might be nice to mix it up once in a while.

Great to hear our Wilderness Expedition Women’s Wool Vest fits you well, and is so…soft. We will pass your color suggestions along to our product development team.

Thank you for leaving a review!

Women's Expedition wool black vest

I give the vest four stars only because it is warm in the tropics. When it gets colder I will reevaluate at that time; It is Well constructed and very soft; thank you.

Mostly awesome

This vest is great. (OK--I'm not a extreme hiker, but I have always felt vests are great in general, more flexibility when cooking, washing hands, diaper changes & working w/o an extra layer of sleeves getting in way or thick sweater sleeves that keep sliding down) Plastic (fleece, etc) holds in my sweat & often smells funny to me. This is long enough to cover my base-layer wools & other shirts. But I'm wearing this around the house. Wish the collar laid flat & was just a bit looser at torso for a 'mom-bod'. Has washed great. Would love to have this in a (non-heathered) light & neutral color (tan/khaki/light peat), for spring. Although the navy color looks tempting.

We also think this vest is great! Thank you for the feedback on the fit.

good quality

Good quality 100% merino wool and well made. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't come in size XXXL, the XXL which I have although stretchy, is tight in my hips so the vest rides up and I have to constantly pull it down.

HD,
Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback for us. We are a growing company and part of that is growing the options we have in sizing. This feedback is important to us so our product development team can decide which sizes and pieces we add next!
