If you have ever traveled to Minnesota you get to see some diverse country, from Oak Ridges to farm country we truthfully have it all. Often, however, the far North part of Minnesota gets overlooked. Creating magnificent beauty that many people feel you can only see in Canada. The far North of Minnesota is home to many wonderful fisheries. They host a bounty of fish every year. From my home town of Grand Rapids, MN it’s a short 2-hour drive to the rainy Kabetogama Lake. It’s truthfully one of my favorite lakes to fish regardless of the time of year, producing very dark Walleyes and Crappies year-round.
This trip was a nicer one and most of my lightweights were used like the Tarleton Lightweight Wool S/S ¼ Zip. I usually have one or two of these packed for when temps get above 65 degrees on the water. Fishing 10+ hours a day is a blast and I tend to do it every weekend, however you need to keep the correct clothing to make it a blast. I have had many people cut my trips short because they will bring cotton base layers with them, and when the sun is beating down and it gets warm, they are usually miserable. Minus33 tends to focus on the avid outdoor enthusiast at all levels rather than focusing on just one specific type of enthusiast. Their gear allows me to fish longer and harder during some pretty insane conditions. My layering system will always be Minus33, they just understand what every enthusiast needs. 
Layering for Northern Minnesota
On this trip leaves were beginning to change, and the fishing usually heats up. The early September weather usually keeps me humble. Even if the weather says it's going to be nice, that’s not always the case. I pack up just about everything from lightweight to my midweight clothing. I tend to stick with the long sleeves such as the Allagash Lightweight ¼ Zip, as sun is usually brutal on the water. Usually using the Outdoor Sport Wool Sock is my go-to this time of year. This year I was fortunate not to have to layer too much, as weather was nicer than normal seeing temps hover in the mid 70’s. It made for a wonderful and enjoyable fishing trip. We fish in the heart of Voyageurs National Forest. For those who love to backpack or enjoy seeing some different water, it’s definitely a place to check out. In my opinion, fishing is the bonus to the beauty of Voyageurs. The lakes produce some breath-taking scenery and some of nature’s finest sometimes show up.
