Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Tan 499 needs a short sleeve

Bought 2 of these in Tan 499 and converted them into short sleeves to wear with my uniform. Just finished a two week field exercise and this is the first time I can honestly say I had zero issues due to my base layers. Highly recommend making Tan499 short sleeves; Soldiers and Airmen who know how great merino wool is will flock to it in lieu of the issued synthetic shirts.

That's great!! We have Tan coming in our Algonquin Lightweight S/S Crew in May! Altering will no longer be necessary.

Worked Great!

Wore this shirt during a Mountain Goat Hunt on Kodiak Island. Kept me at a constant temperature, not too cold, not too warm, even when soaked in sweat. very comfortable.

Glad to hear it worked out so well for you. Thank you for your review!

Great service not so great durability

Bought 3 long sleeve base layers. I work in the medical field so wear these under my scrubs in the operating room.have bought multiple brands in the past and am always looking for the perfect blend of comfort and durability . I love the feel of these shirts and they were amazing for the first several months. But then 2 of the 3 developed multiple holes. I sent them back and was quickly without question sent 2 replacements. They are a wonderful shi to wear. But I've only had them now for about 2 months so time will tell if the durability is any different. Unfortunately the third shirt from my original 3 has now also developed a hole. I might save these for a base layer while hiking or skiing, but it appears they are not suited for a daily wear shirt.
