Spring Walleye Season with Minus33

Minnesota is full of past times, from snowmobiling to the opener of deer season in the fall. There is one particularly close to my heart and that is the start of spring walleye. The season begins in the early part of May and offers some the best and most exciting fishing action in the country. Across the state of Minnesota, the walleye opener is treated as a holiday as people from all over wet a line chasing these fish. My walleye season starts like most others in the heart of central Minnesota on Leech Lake. I tend to use the full line of Minus33 base layers because conditions can become brutal. This year was above average in terms of temps, so I dressed light, using most of my light tees and light long sleeves to keep me cool during the mornings and afternoons. Rain is usually present at some point as well and it helps keep me cool and dry under a rain suit. Minus33 shines for long days on the water where changing weather is always possible. The merino wool Minus33 uses for their clothes helps me adjust without much packing. I’m able to use clothes like the Ticonderoga Lightweight Crew and the Merino Wool Day Hiker Sock to keep me comfortable. Packing my Thermerino Jacket allows me to throw on that extra layer if temps drop. Usually by the end of May, temps are a steady 70 degrees and I can have most of my light layers packed then. I usually sport a Jericho Lightweight Sleeveless for the warm days. Paired with Woolverino Micro Boxers to get me through the long warm day chasing these elusive fish.
