Rainy Lake Slabs

Rainy Lake Slabs

There is one thing that I enjoy every spring and that is a trip up to Rainy Lake in Northern Minnesota. This lake hides some of the biggest crappies in the state of Minnesota and every year it doesn’t disappoint. With the weather being unpredictable you must be prepared to have the right clothing at a minute. Minus33 shines and makes every trip fun and long-lasting.

The first day of our trip brought cold temps and wind. Wrapping myself in mid-layer clothing was a must as temps did not get above 45 degrees. I stick to long-sleeve mid-layers from Minus33, they help cut the wind and keep the water out. It was very important to keep layered up during this time. It was a long, fun day full of fish.

Day two was much of the same until the early afternoon as temps started to warm up some. So, the layers came off in the afternoon and the fish started snapping. Wrapping up three limits of fish in a short time, we were all in our Minus33 tees at the time.

Day 4 brought much of the same. Lots of boat time as we started to have to search for the bigger schools of fish in the lake. Rainy is large, covering a hundred square miles of water across the Minnesota and Canada border. With these windy days plus boat travel, I tend to double layer on these days, throwing on some of the expedition gear to keep warm. The temps never climbed above 45 degrees this day, but with the wind cutting that down ten degrees and the mix of rain, our bodies got a workout. This was an awesome day once we found the fish, filling the boat one more time before the ride home.

Rainy Lake Slabs

The trip was fun-filled with tight lines and happy faces. Minus33 truly has clothes for every condition when you’re out in the elements. It's the main reason I wear it almost every weekend. From hot to cold there isn’t a place I don't have a piece of their clothing ready to go. It's the only thing that keeps this Merinoholic going.
