Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

nice

Had to exchange for next size bigger and pay the difference for the bigger size.
Nice fabric. So far so good.
Had to send back a top that I found a hole in but it is being swapped out and heading back to me as I write. That was nice of them to do that.

Stephen,

My Go To Winter Base Layer

These expedition weight bottoms have become my most used base layer bottom. Because wool has a wide temperature comfort range, I can wear these under thin pants in cold weather, under down pants in bitterly cold weather, and by themselves as indoors loungewear. In fact, they are more comfortable than sweatpants! Part of that is due to the extremely comfortable waistband that doesn't dig or roll.

Living in Northern Virginia, our winters are not that bad, but still these are my go to. The only times I don't use these in the winter is if we have a warm snap, or if I am doing strenuous exercise in temps above 20 degree Fahrenheit. With the "Expedition" label, it's easy to assume these would be a rarely used specialty piece, but they are so much more.

David,

Thank you for providing such great detailed feedback on your Minus33 Katmai Men's Expedition Bottoms! We are happy to hear that they serve you well in so many different ways, during the winters down in Northern Virginia. The natural properties of merino wool, allow a heavier piece like the Katmai bottoms to be very breathable and able to be worn in a variety of different temperatures, even when it is not extremely cold, as you've found with your experience with wearing these bottoms. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with us, we greatly appreciate it!

Best,

-Steven D
