Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Look like Steve Jobs, feel like a sheep is hugging you.

Nobody wears turtlenecks anymore, and I've never understood why. Easy money the best turtlenecks on the market, the wool is super comfortable, not even the tiniest bit scratchy. It has a better feel than even brand new polyester sheets, and will last much longer too. Warmth is exactly what you’d expect given the intermediate weight of the fabric. I get lots of compliments on these from my coworkers, especially given that in the covid age of zoom calls, the only fashion choices that matter are from the shoulder and up, and trust me, a turtleneck is quite a statement. To sum up, they’re an ever-fashionable, well constructed, high quality mid layer that will have you warm on the slopes, in the mountains, or on morning walks, while also having you looking svelte and sophisticated on the patio at (insert your favorite local yuppie bar or brewery’s name here). Highly recommend.

What a great review! Got a chuckle from it! Thank you!

Made in China

The turtleneck is sheer and shiny in a tacky way, the stitching is high contrast and inelegant, there is overall low quality consistent with goods made in China, the garment is priced as though it is made in the US, and the fabric is slick/synthetic adjacent and doesn't feel like wool at all.

I feel misled. I am returning my products and I will not be buying anything from Minus 33 in the future. For these prices, they can afford to onshore their production.

Matthew,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize if our product did not meet your expectations. Our company takes pride in producing high-quality garments, and we understand your disappointment with the origin of our product. We assure you that our materials are sourced from reputable suppliers and our production standards are closely monitored.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and we will take your feedback into consideration for future improvements. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us. We value your patronage and hope to have the opportunity to make it up to you in the future.

Furthermore, here is some brief history of our company that may provide some insight into why we source some of our products abroad. The parent company of Minus33 is L.W. Packard, a textile company created by our current president's great-great-grand-uncle in 1916. We were able to successfully run this textile mill for 86 years until, in 2002, the politics of globalization caused our president's father to finally go out of business as one of the last textile mills in America. He had to let go 300 employees, most of them friends and family that he grew up with. After that, he started a 100% merino wool base layer company which is now the Minus33 you know today.

In the last five years, we have purchased several sock knitting machines and set them up in Ashland NH on the historic grounds of the L.W. Packard Mill. We learned how to operate these machines and designed the Mountain Heritage Collection of USA-made socks by Minus33. This sock line consists of four different weights of socks, in seven heights, four sizes, and five colors. Recently, we also purchased two new sock machines to help expand the sock variety. These new socks will be coming in the near term. Additionally, we are looking at purchasing machines that can produce hats and gloves in our mill in the coming years.

Rebuilding USA manufacturing is a very difficult process due to the trade laws put in place several decades ago, and we expect it to take time, but we assure you that we are working on it. We ask that if you feel strongly about bringing back production to the USA please contact your local reps and let them know that you're interested in seeing less globalization and more American-made products

Sincerely,

Minus33 Customer Service Team

Very Comfortable

I’m not a huge fan of turtlenecks, but I own 2 of these, one green and one black. They are comfortable and not “constricting". I wear them when hunting or surf fishing as a layer and they keep me warm!!
Also great as casual top layer. A great addition to my wardrobe.

A shirt with a built in neck gaiter to keep you extra cozy?! And no neck discomfort?! Sounds like a Win Win to me!
We also have a Navy Blue if you are looking to complete the set ;)
