Much like the coat on the Kodiak Bear, our Kodiak is our warmest cold-weather garment. Made with our Expedition weight 400 g/m2 fleeced Merino Wool fabric, the Kodiak Hoody is crafted with thumbholes and a drawstring to bundle you up for wicked cold days. This hoody is amazing whether you are working the crab boats off the Alaskan coast, biking around Boston without a jacket in January, or just going for a leisurely walk on a fall afternoon. This is a truly world-class garment that you won't leave home without.

      Kodiak is the main city on Kodiak Island, Alaska; it's also the name of the most feared bear in the world, commonly called the Alaskan Grizzly Bear. The Kodiak Bear is one of the largest species of bear, along with the Polar Bear.

      Originally designed for winter mountaineering on Mount Washington, Minus33 Expedition Weight clothing has seen action in both the Antarctic and Arctic, and even to the Summit of Mount Everest. Anyone venturing out in the cold will greet our Expedition clothing with a warm welcome as either a base, mid or outer layer.       Why Merino Wool?

      Moisture Wicking

      Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

      Anti-Microbial

      Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

      Insulates When Wet

      Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

      Fire Resistant

      Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

      UV Protection

      Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

      Renewable

      Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.
