Fit FAQs

What if I am between sizes?

If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up or down based on what fit type you would prefer, and based on how you plan to wear the piece. Our knitted merino is stretchy and you could realistically go with either size. If you would prefer an Athletic fit, size down. If you prefer a Regular or Relaxed fit, size up.

Do I need to size up/down to layer?

Generally, no, you do not need to purchase a different size than normal. Our base layers are designed to fit right into your current layering system. They are also designed to work with other products in our line, too. You may wish to adjust your sizing if you plan to wear one of our garments in a way that it is not intended, if that's the case please feel free to contact our customer service team for help.

Does your clothing run true to size?

Yes, our clothing runs true to size and is sized similar to most other American brands. If a sizing discrepancy is discovered, you will see fit advice in that product's specific listing.

Learn About Layering

Why Merino Wool?

Moisture Wicking

Minus33 Merino Wool regulates the amount of moisture on your skin by absorbing any moisture or sweat on your body. Then, the absorbed moisture evaporates out of the fabric into the atmosphere.

Anti-Microbial

Merino Wool fibers naturally reject any bacteria in moisture or sweat as it is wicked away, so foot fungus and smelly odor will not be a problem while wearing our products.

Insulates When Wet

Wool will absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or clammy. If you do get wet, wool will insulate you better than cotton or polyester materials.

Fire Resistant

Merino Wool insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes. When Merino burns, it doesn’t melt and stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics do.

UV Protection

Don’t worry about sunburn on a sunny day summiting a peak. Lightweight layers have a UPF rating of 25. Midweight and Expedition have a UPF rating of 50+.

Renewable

Merino Wool has a low environmental footprint and naturally returns to the elements. Shear a merino sheep in the morning, and in the afternoon they’re happily nibbling their way towards renewing next season’s clip.

TOTAL EASY CARE

MACHINE WASH AND DRY

Total Easy Care (TEC) Merino apparel is designed for today's busy lifestyle. Total Easy Care Merino garments are all machine-washable, and are suitable for tumble drying.

Even after frequent laundering they retain an 'as new' appearance. They won't shrink, lose their shape, fade or color-bleed. They remain soft and comfortable for the life of the garment.

Cool and comfortable

I'm female, but like the longer fit of the men's clothes - and colors.

Jenny,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a positive review. We are glad that you have found the right fit for you in our products.

Perfect XC ski shirt

I sweat a lot. I ski cross country and back country a lot. This is the shirt of my dreams. I often start the day with a frigid sunrise and many layers of clothing. Two hours later the sun is blazing and the temps have climbed 20 degrees. This is the base layer that saves me. I can put all the cold weather layers into my backpack and keep on going without turning into a sweaty mess. I had been thinking about and then looking for this shirt for two seasons. I'm really happy this came up in my searching and incredibly happy when I wear it. Thank you so much.

...and I want more colors as well.

Michael,

We are happy to hear how well you like your 100% Merino Wool Tarleton Men's S/S 1/4 Zip - Lightweight. We will pass adding more colors suggestion, along to our product development team.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review!

Excellent Product!!!

I’m very very picky about all my clothing, especially technical clothing. This product meets my standards. 5 stars all around. I’ve been searching for a 1/4 zip short sleeve 100% or near 100% wool shirt for a LONG time, and Minus33 delivers. It’s light weight, breathable, soft, naturally odor repellent, and has a slim fit. It’s a great warm base later on slightly cool days, and can be worn as a lone layer that keeps you comfortably cool on warm days. Sizing is correct, but if you like your shirts baggy, then size up. I only wish Minus33 would be more adventurous with their color choices. Glad I finally found a high quality 1/4 zip wool shirt from Minus 33! Excellent product!!

Henry,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a detailed and positive review. It's great to hear that the Minus33 Tarleton 1/4 zip is up to par with your standards. I will pass along your request for a larger variety of colors to our production design team.

the only one

minus 33 makes the ONLY collared quarter zip short sleeve out there. for some of us, a collar is critical in a technical shirt because of how it interfaces with a mosquito headnet. bottom line ... no collar = get bit. the collar makes for warmer sleeping as well. short sleeves and bugs ?? yes, as long sleeves bulk up under multiple layers and run too hot most of the time. no matter how treated, merino is not bug-proof on it's own, thusly, it needs a layer on top.
i've run thru at least six of these shorts over the years, and have been happy with every one. i luv 'em.

Peter,

Thank you for the great review!

Five stars! — less a bit

Have had a few weeks of late fall/early winter weather to test my new lightweight men’s zip-tee: First-rate product, at a very reasonable price: fit, feel and quality of stitching are all excellent. The only “but”?—raglan sleeves would make it a five-star review.

John,

Thank you for the great review! We are pleased to hear that you are enjoying your Minus33 Tarleton 1/4 Zip. We will send your idea about the raglan sleeves on to our Product Development Team.
