USA Luge struggles on opening day of World Cup season

IGLS, Austria – A promising first race of the new World Cup season Saturday vanished in several thousandths of a second for USA Luge, as 2014 Olympic bronze medalist Erin Hamlin, in second place going into the second and final heat, met the left wall of the start ramp, ending any chance for a podium finish.


4 years pass quickly: the time to qualify for 2018 Winter Olympics begins in Austrian Tyrol Nov. 18-19

IGLS, Austria – The most important World Cup luge season in any quadrennium begins next weekend outside Innsbruck, the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic site. It’s significant for the simple reason that the first five races prior to the holiday break will determine the final field of Olympic luge racers, as the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games begin in less than three months.

World Cup team finalized as Germaine edges Arndt for 4th women’s spot


PYEONGCHANG, South Korea – The USA Luge doubles team of Matt Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman and singles racer Tucker West, all members of the Sochi Olympic team, won their respective divisions for the second consecutive race, as the Norton seeding series ended Sunday morning in Pyeongchang.

USA Luge schedule for the fall training and World Cup competition periods

    • Sept. 25 – Oct. 4 / Lillehammer, Norway
    • Oct. 7-13 / Whistler, B.C. / Seeding race 1 on Oct. 13
    • Oct. 15-19 / Calgary, Alb. / Seeding race 2 postponed (weather)
    • Oct. 21-29 / Lake Placid / Seeding race 3 and Norton National Championships postponed (weather)



The USA Luge National Team will return to Lake Placid Oct. 23-29 for a week of on ice training at Mount Van Hoevenberg, culminating with the second and third Norton Seeding Races and the Norton National Championships


7 members of the group will be available on a media call Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 2:30 ET
