Iceland Hiking Trip

“I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful product. I purchased 2 Chocorua Midweight shirts for a weeklong hiking trip across Iceland’s Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trails. The shirts kept me completely comfortable through the constantly changing temperatures and intense wind/rain storms. I even wear them casually when I work and go out for the evening.

Your Merino Wool Ridge Cuff Beanie also accompanied me on the hike and worked wonderfully. Iceland’s temperature in mid-September ranged between 25F and 55F and the beanie kept me warm while sleeping through the freezing nights.”

Review: Saratoga Lightweight Bottoms

For the past two years, I have worked for the U.S. House of Representatives serving the constituents in the most professional manner. Politics and service to others is in my blood. I have had a wealth of experience in my young life and I always have sought out ways to challenge myself and take risk. Risk that has always bettered my character and experience.  As such, I have been in the planning stages of completing a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2018.READ MORE

Merino Wool Base Layers for Elk Hunting and More

By:  | Sep 21, 2017 | HuntingWestern Exposure

Do you want good Base Layers for Elk Hunting and More?

Last fall I tested several merino wool base layers for Elk hunting.  I really liked a pair of Merino Wool long Johns I bought locally and looked the company up, it was called Minus 33.  I contacted them this spring and received some “skin garments” for my spring bear hunting and summer mountain work.  I wanted to test these items to try and resolve an age-old problem, that swampy feeling under your backpack and in your crotch. Moose Hunting with Minus33

Minus 33,

My friend Dale Ash turned me on to your products last year. In September I did a DIY moose hunt in the Alaska Range. It was my first trip to Alaska. Your underwear was perfect for hunting in and sleeping in. Kept me comfortable even when damp. Temperatures ranged from 15 degrees F and snow to sunny and 55.READ MORE

minus 33 merino wool clothing, Thermerino's maiden voyage, gray-jays

Thermerino’s Maiden Voyage

I had a plan to hike Mt Willey on 01/09/2017. I wanted to hit the Tom/Field/Willey loop to bag all three 4000’ers but my hiking partner cancelled and I didn’t want to make that road trek back to the vehicle or be stuck hitching.

I had been waiting to get my grubby little hands on the new Minus33 Thermerino Jacket and finally pulled the trigger on it.  This was to be its maiden voyage.  I’ll admit, I was apprehensive of taken an unknown/unproven (to me) product into Crawford Notch when it was -10* out.  I own a heavier down jacket that I had been taking into the woods with me but was too excited for this jacket to leave it behind.  I opted to throw an extra, “heavy” top in my pack just in case.

Minus 33 Algonquin – a wool shirt that keeps you cool

In all of my years of hiking I can think of only two shirts I’ve purchased specifically for my time on the trails. Both were long-sleeved hooded shirts purchased for sun protection (I am a bald guy, after all). When hiking in hot weather, I’ve always worn free shirts collected from various running races. This is because I am, ahem, thrifty, and figured it didn’t really matter what shirt I was hiking in because it would just get sweaty and stinky anyway.

Rafting trip down the Colorado River thru the Grand Canyon

Just returned from a winter (Dec/Jan) raft trip down the Colorado River thru the Grand Canyon. Stocked up on Minus 33 gear in preparation for this adventure. Trip was wet and cold as expected, and my experience was awesome. Your gear performed very well. I was particularly impressed w/ my expedition weight base layers – Katmai bottoms and Kobuk top. Wore these every day under my dry suit on the River and stayed comfortable w/out being too warm. Great quality – standing up to daily rugged use for our 19 day trip.

Anywhere At Home Test Out Two Great Minus33 Products!

Anywhere At Home took our Moriah Lightweight Women’s Crew and our Rogers Midweight Men’s Mock Neck for a month long trip to Kansas. “These shirts are quality! Some wool shirts get wear and tear so quickly, from the abrasion of rock, trees, and other gear, especially under high stress adventure. It’s hard to want to spend too much on a shirt. Minus33 is a great option for high-quality wool that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.”

Missouri Howell Checks Out The Midweight Crew!

Missouri Howell

Late fall and winter hiking presents a number of challenges. For me, one of those is the fact that I have yet to find a cold weather baselayer that keeps me warm while offering a decent fit. I have now had the opportunity to try out the Minus 33 midweight crew on a couple of cold weather occasions and I’m really happy with it. I can only imagine how warm their expedition weight layers must be.

Looking to stay extra warm this winter?

When you’re preparing for an adventure one of the first things that usually will come to mind is what base layer you may select.  Some features of a good base layer are to keep you warm, wick sweat, be lightweight and fit well.  While on my adventure at Preston Island I was wearing the Minus33 Yukon Men’s Expedition Crew.  Here are my thoughts and overall review of this item..

Hunting Life Tests the Minus33 Fingerless Glove Liner and Mock Turtleneck!

Hunting Life

Having hunted in cold weather and expecting to do so again this year, I know the importance of warm hands. Fingers just don’t work as well when they cold. What I’ve done in the past is kept my hands in my gloves while stalking and then taking them off when I am ready to shoot. But what I really wanted was fingerless gloves. That way, I could keep my gloves on and my hands warm but have my fingertips exposed for a safer and more accurate grip on my rifle.

Wool workout wear warms you up, cools you down.

“While synthetics are passive, Merino wool is active, reacting to changes in body temperature to keep you warm when you’re cold, but releasing heat and moisture when you’re hot,” he said, noting that wool performs equally well during indoor and outdoor workouts. “The best part is that wool naturally reduces chafing, odor and dries incredibly fast.”
