2017 Running of the Balls to take place on December 15 after World Cup Men and Doubles

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – It’s time once again for the Running of the Balls! Pandemonium will follow after over 1,000 lacrosse balls are released from their gate and speed down the Olympic Sports Complex luge track. This unique and fun initiative was created to help support the athletes and programs of USA Luge, taking place less than two months before the team hits the ice at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The event will take place Friday, Dec. 15, shortly upon conclusion of the Viessmann World Cup luge event in Lake Placid.

This marks the third ROTB, with the last edition seeing over 1,200 lacrosse balls negotiating the nearly one-mile course down Mount Van Hoevenberg. The lacrosse balls were donated by Summit Lacrosse, based in the Lake Placid/Saranac Lake region.

Fans will be able to participate in this unique event by entering as many balls as they’d like in this one-of-a-kind race that benefits USA Luge.

Cash and prizes from USA Luge sponsors will be offered for the top ten balls, as well as the last place ball.

Media sponsors include the Lake Placid News and 93.3 WSLP-FM.

On-site fans will be treated to coverage on large screens thanks to the International Luge Federation, Carr-Hughes Productions and the N.Y. Olympic Regional Development Authority. The event will also be broadcast on USALuge.org.

Fans will be able to buy balls for $10 each or three balls for $25.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st place: $500 and a hat from Duluth Trading Company

2nd place: $300

3rd place: $200

4th place: $150

5th place: $100

6th place: Travelers Choice large hard case luggage

7th place: Timex watch

8th place: Small Travelers Choice roll aboard luggage

9th place: Minus 33 socks

10th place: Duluth Trading Company baseball hat

Last place: $100

More prizes to be added from White Castle, including gift certificates! U.S.Venture will also be supplying some great hats to our winners as well.

As sponsor contributions grow, the prize package will increase accordingly. USA Luge will sell tickets at Lake Placid retail outlets, at USA Luge headquarters at 57 Church Street in Lake Placid, or by registering below.
