The natural crimp and properties of Merino Wool Fiber promote insulation to protect against both hot and cold temperatures. Wool actually absorbs heat. When wool absorbs moisture, it creates a molecular energy. Merino wool removes 60 BTUs of heat per ounce of perspiration more than any synthetic.
Each wool fiber can absorb up to one third of its own weight in moisture without feeling clammy or wet to the touch. Wool fiber is porous, meaning the fiber absorbs vapor before it condenses. Also being porous, the fiber transfers the moisture away from the skin to the outside quicker and more efficiently. Merino wool can absorb and release considerably more moisture than any synthetic. Wool is also naturally flame retardant. Wool is naturally odor resistant due to wool having an inability to host odor producing bacteria. Since wool keeps you drier, there is less of a breeding ground for odor causing bacteria.
Also, wool contains Amino Acids which actually break down bacteria, unlike any synthetic fiber. Merino wool offers a more natural, renewable, recyclable, biodegradable and durable fabric than that of fossil fuel plastic derivatives such as polyester, polypropylene. How do 50 million New Zealand and 120 million Australian sheep keep from getting cold and hot and stay comfortable year round? Finer Micron Merino wools are not itchy or scratchy.
